Back on the Road

We are back on the road heading south having left mid-week.  This was a slight delay from our original plans; however, plans changed.  As it turned out it was wise for us to wait - we were able to get our flu shots, the travelling weather was next to perfect - this all helps to make the trip enjoyable.

While the weather was perfect - sunny, very little wind except for Wheatland, WY area (that is the same area we had to stop and wait out,  the wind some fifteen years ago), there always seems to be some distraction.  They were predicting some winds but fortunately we were ahead of it.

Our first day out, we stopped for lunch in Plentywood, MT.  We are travelling with Jim and Myrna and Jim says "I see you have a little oil leak" - yup, he was right.  Gerry went to tighten the plug which could not be tightened.  He did have a replacement plug but what do you do with 20+ litres of oil.  He went to a building nearby and the fellow found an old cut-out plastic container - just in case.  Well, he took the old one out, inserted the new one, lost about half a litre of oil (he was quick) and the leak was fixed!!

Day two we stopped in Gillette for lunch and to pick up some groceries.  As we were getting things out of our bay, the hinge broke and the door landed on the ground.  Fortunately, or unfortunately, we had the same thing happen last winter so we did have some replacement hinge.  With the help of Jim, the hinge was replaced and the door was back on  - fixed again.

As we passed through Denver, the traffic was truly big city traffic as we were going through mid Friday afternoon.

Day three, we hooked up a water filter for our drinking water and the tap would not shut off.  Tried everything and nothing seemed to work - except good old WD-40, and it now works.

Today is day four - so far everything is good.  We did discover what appears to be a nail in the tire of the Jeep.  It may just be a nail head in the rubber  but since it is holding air, we are leaving well enough alone.  And we were able to watch the Riders win this evening.  We did find a lovely state park at Conchas Lake in New Mexico so will likely spend a couple of nights here - it appears to be nice and quiet so a great place to rest.

The scenery is varied - grasslands to mountains to farmland - almost everything.

I hope everyone has a great week, and I hope you will stop by again next week!!
